![]() Goals of TEN
TEN is a European Interreg project which is seeking to create an ecological network of wetland habitats in the North Sea area and to support and implement interdisciplinary concepts for the restoration of wetland systems. Lead Partner is the province of Drenthe. The counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, the Dutch provinces of Groningen and Overijssel and the German regions of Niedersachsen and Bremen participate in this project. TEN's goal is to realize an ecological network in water systems in the North Sea area in supporting and implementing the interdisciplinary concepts for the revitalization of water systems. This takes into account the integral ecosystems and the implementation of projects in the spatial planning of the regions involved. Primary aims: TEN will help to deliver an integrated approach for ecological design, water management, spatial planning, economic development of rural areas matching the development of ecological corridors and connecting Natura 2000 sites and other wildlife sites. We will implement innovative and appealing projects with broad influence on political and public thinking and triggering future technical developments. By demonstrating practical concepts of sustainable ecological concepts and concrete examples political decisions and local/regional spatial planning will improve. We will develop a training course on ecological corridors keeping in mind economic, environmental and spatial planning issues for project planners and decision makers. Secondary aims: We will deliver input to bring the concepts of an ecological network outside the North Sea area particularly in the Baltic Area (action New Hanseatic Region: Interreg IIIC project). The results will be a network of ecological corridors linking Natura 2000 and other wildlife sites with benefits for threatened species (e.g. otter), nature conservation, water management, water quality and economic development.
